SERVICES

Applecross Physiotherapy offers a selection of services aimed at providing you the highest quality of clinical care. Your physiotherapist will assist in determining the most effective treatment plan depending on your area of injury. Applecross Physiotherapy Perth offers the following services:

PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT is the starting point of your physiotherapy consultation. Assessment will comprise a series of questions combined with orthopaedic, resistance, balance or movement tests (joint, muscle, nerve) that will provide your physiotherapist with vital information. Postural assessment may also be undertaken at this time depending on the presenting problem.

A physiotherapy assessment is essential in providing accurate diagnosis of the problem. We encourage bringing to your appointment any scans or investigations you may have undergone previously.

To make an appointment with our physiotherapists call 9316 1186 or email admin@applecrossphysio.com.au

MANUAL THERAPY refers to a broad range of “hands on” physiotherapy techniques applied to the body to treat musculoskeletal and neural (nerve related) conditions. The aim of this type of treatment is to regain or improve movement and reduce discomfort. Manual therapy is usually used with other treatment options to achieve results according to your treatment plan devised by your physiotherapist. Specific manual therapy techniques include:

  • Mobilisation – movement of a joint, nerve or muscle
  • Manipulation – MANIPULATIVE THERAPY link on Movewell Phsyio Site
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Trigger point therapy
  • PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular facilitation) – muscle energy techniques

PILATES  is a form of exercise aimed at developing controlled movement by building strength within stabilising (supporting) muscles of the spine. Applecross Physiotherapy offers physiotherapy structured and supervised Pilates programs. This allows Pilates to be offered in conjunction with other treatment options to maintain specificity to your injury and rehabilitation.

STABILISING MUSCLES

EXERCISE REHABILITATION – Exercises will usually be prescribed by your physiotherapist following assessment of the problem. The aim is to regain or improve posture, movement, conditioning, strength or balance (proprioception) depending on the cause of the problem.

Exercises may be tailored following surgery depending on the type of procedure and stage of recovery. Studies have shown that physiotherapy prescribed exercise programs are effective in promoting rapid recovery and return to the workplace.

REAL TIME ULTRASOUND IMAGING (RTUI) refers to ultrasound imaging (computer type display) that allows your physiotherapist to view stabilising muscle contractions as it happens (real time). This allows an assessment of the quality, timing, awareness and endurance of your stabilising muscle contractions.

REAL TIME ULTRASOUND IMAGING FOR LOW BACK PAIN

RTUI is used to not only improve the efficiency of stabilising muscle contractions but to improve pelvic floor muscle functioning. This type of imaging is relevant in the presence of low back pain and the treatment of continence problems, following childbirth or recovery from abdominal surgery.

POSTURAL + ERGONOMIC ADVICE may depend on the problem area and your daily movements or positioning. Postural advice may be provided by your physiotherapist following assessment and used in combination with any of the above services.

Overloading stress or strain on the body is not uncommon depending on your occupation and can contribute or prevent full recovery from an injury. This is particularly evident with long periods of computer use and the onset of spinal pain/disorders. Improving awareness (proprioception) and control of your posture may prevent the recurrence or onset of a postural related problem.

We encourage you to discuss any postural or ergonomic concerns with your physiotherapist during your appointment (08) 9316 1186

AQUATIC PHYSIOTHERAPY (HYDROTHERAPY) refers to physiotherapy structured and supervised exercise in water. This can be a highly effective method of regaining or improving movement, strength and balance following injury or surgery.

Movement within water removes gravitational type load on the body therefore allowing movement to occur with less chance of aggravating your injury. The effect of buoyancy can assist the movement of a joint or limb and a moderate level of resistance can also be created from turbulence.

Applecross Physiotherapy works in conjunction with Melville Aquatic Centre (Marmion St, Booragoon) and Move Well Melville Physiotherapy to provide this service. For further information regarding aquatic physiotherapy sessions call (08) 9316 1186 or discuss with your physiotherapist.

HYDROTHERAPY CLASSES

ORTHOTIC PRESCRIPTION may be required at the discretion of your physiotherapist to reduce or improve the biomechanical stress on the lower back or lower limb.  Applecross Physiotherapy utilises gaitscan technology that allows customisation of an orthotic product according to your injury and footwear requirements.

GAITSCAN ORTHOTICS

If you are seeking orthotics or have a query related to orthotic prescription we encourage discussion with your physiotherapist or make an appointment (08)9316 1186

TAPING is often used in conjunction with other physiotherapy services to improve awareness (proprioception), support and reduce discomfort following injury. Taping may be applied to the area of injury or to a supporting body region to reduce stress or strain on the injured area.

Physiotherapists at Applecross Physiotherapy specialise in the application of traditional sports taping methods as well as kinesiology taping. You can purchase tape from our practice following discussion and self-application advice with your physiotherapist (08) 9316 1186

ELECTROTHERAPY refers to the use of electrical energy as a physiotherapy treatment using low grade electrical current to promote wound healing, reduce swelling (oedema), enhance blood flow and relieve discomfort.

This type of treatment may be used at the discretion of your physiotherapist in combination with other services described above.
